The top tier of Greek football was long known as the A Ethniki before a reorganization of Greek football resulted in the creation of Superleague Greece. Similar to the creation of the Premier League in England, it was the same league with a new name and they get a lot more money than they used to. The 16 clubs play each other twice (home and away) for a total of 30 games. The bottom three clubs are relegated. The season runs from August to May.
