The 18 clubs play each other twice, home and away, for a total of 34 games. The champion are promoted to to the 3rd level Regionalliga Süd. The bottom three clubs are relegated to to one of the 5th level Verbandsliga of Nordbaden, Südbaden or Württemberg. The season runs from August to May with a one month winter break.
