The National First Division is the second tier of South African football and is officially known as the Mvela Golden League after the title sponsor Mvelaphanda Group. The 16 clubs are divided into two groups of 8 - Inland and Coastal and play a total of 21 games. The two group winners play for a promotion spot, while the loser of the playoff, the 2 2nd placed-clubs and the 15th team from the PSL play off for one spot in the following season's top league.
