The I Liga Polska (Polish First League) is the second tier league in the Polish football system. Before the 2008-09 season it was known as the Second League. The 18 teams play each other twice (home and away) for a total of 34 games. The season runs from July to May with a winter break. The top two teams are promoted while the 3rd place teams goes into a promotion/relegation playoff with the 14th team from the Ekstraklasa. The bottom four clubs are relegated while the 13th and 14th go into promotion/relegation playoffs with the 3rd place clubs from the two groups of the third-tier II Liga.
