The Greek Third Division (also known as the Gamma Ethniki - Gamma being the third letter in the Greek alphabet) is divided into two groups - Group One being the south of the country. It is the lowest tier of professional football in Greece. The 18 teams play each other twice (home and away) for a total of 34 games. The season runs from August to May. The champions are promoted to the Second Division (Beta Ethniki) while the 2nd-place team plays off against the 2nd-place team from the Third Division North for a third promotion spot. The bottom five teams are relegated to the Greek Fourth Division (Delta Ethniki).
