Description:
The town of Watford is a suburb of London. Watford Rovers merged into West Herts in 1890, who merged with Watford St. Mary's in 1898, the new entity being renamed as Watford FC. After two decades in the Southern League Waford joined the Football League in 1920 as founder members of Division Three (South). Pop star Elton John was for many years the club owner and he remains an honorary president. The money he introduced helped the club reach the English First Division for the first time in the 1980s. The Hornets nickname is used because of the club's yellow and black colors. The club's emblem includes the hart (a deer), the symbol of Hertfordshire, the county in which Watford is located. The stadium is located on Vicarage Road in Watford. Previous Stadiums - Vicarage Meadow (1883), Colney Butts (1883-89), Cassio Road (1889-1922).
