Official Website: swfc.co.uk Description: Formed by members of The Wednesday Cricket Club to keep in shape during the winter months. The name derives from the day of the week on which they traditionally played. Their matches with arch-rival Sheffield United are known as the Steel City Derby, a tribute to the important steel industry in Sheffield. Sheffield Wednesday's nickname - The Owls - comes from the Owlerton neighborhood in which their stadium is located. The stadium was originally known as Owlerton but renamed Hillsborough in 1913 when Owlerton officially became a part of the larger neighborhood of Hillsborough. The owl has since become incorporated into the club's emblem. Previous Stadium: Olive Grove (1887-99).
