Official Website: rot-weiss-essen.de Translation: Red-White Essen. Formed as SV Vogelheim on February 1, 1907 by the merger of SC Preussen and Deutsche Eiche. Three years later they created a joint football team with Turnerbund Bergeborbeck. Three years after that, the football team separated to create an independent club (SSV Emscher-Vogelheim) which returned to the earlier alliance with Turnerbund Bergeborbeck to create Rot-Weiss Essen. In 1943 they joined with BV Altenessen for a season as KSG SC Rot-Weiß Essen/BV 06 Altenessen. Vogelheim is a neighborhood of Essen. Rot-Weiss Essen were the first German club to play in the European Cup. The stadium is named for a former club president. It was the first in Germany to have floodlights. Trophy Room:
