Description: Santander Racing Club were formed on February 13, 1913. Rival club Real Santander disappeared in 1915 and many of its members joined Racing. In 1923 they received the patronage of the Royal Family and changed name to Real Racing Club. The club was forced to change its name again in 1940 to comply with the Franco government's insistence on Spanish club names. In 1973 they returned to including Racing in their name.
The nickname Verdiblancos translates as the Green and White for the club colors while Montañeses is a name for natives of Cantabria. The Racing Santander emblem includes a crown to symbolize their royal patronage, a green flag with a small RS in the top corner over a square of white, plus an old-style football. The Sardinero stadium is named after a neighboring beach of the same name. It was completely rebuilt in 1988.
