Notts County are the second oldest football club in the world, and the oldest professional club. Notts is a short form of Nottingham. One of the founder members of the Football League and one of the most important clubs in the formative years of the sport. Supposedly invented the offside trap. Notts County have narrowly avoided bankruptcy and disappearance several times in recent years. The Magpies nickname is a reference to the club's black and white colors and the bird who shares them. Their jerseys were later copied by Italian giants Juventus. The club's emblem features a pair of magpies over a ball, with the year of the club's foundation beneath. Notts County layed for several years at Trent Bridge, now a famous cricket ground. The stadium is located on Meadow Lane in Nottingham. Previous stadiums - The Park (1862-64), The Meadows (1864-77), Beeston Cricket Ground (1877-80), Castle Ground (1880-83), Trent Bridge (1883-1910).
