Norwich City Football Club was formed on June 17th, 1902 at the Criterion Cafe. Three years later the Canaries joined the Southern League, where they remained until 1920 when they joined the Football League as founder members of Division Three (South). The Canaries nickname is a reference to the once-popular regional pastime of breeding canaries. The club's colors are a tribute to the green and yellow canary. Norwich City's emblem features the ever-present canary as well as the city of Norwich's 11th century castle guarded by a lion. Their matches with arch-rival Ipswich Town are known as the East Anglian Derby, referencing both club's location in the East Anglia region of England. The stadium is located on Carrow Road in Norwich. Previous stadiums - Newmarket Road (1902-08), Rosary Road (1908-35).
