Official Website: motherwellfc.co.uk Formed on May 17, 1886 by the merger of two local amateur sides based at Industrial factories, Glencairn and Alpha. Glencairn took their name from the owner of their factory, John Glencairn Carter Hamilton. Alpha FC was first organized by workers at George Russell's Alpha Steam Crane and Engine Works. Steelmen nickname is a reference to the Ravenscraig steelmill, which was very near their stadium and is also featured on the club logo.
