Limavady Alexander merged with Limavady Wanderers in 1884 to create Limavady United. The origin of the name Limavady comes from the Irish (Gaelic) ‘Leim a Mhadaidh’, which means ‘the leap of the dog’. A leaping dog can be seen in the club’s crest.
