Korona means crown, the traditional symbol of the city of Kielce. A crown is found in the emblem of both club and city and the red and yellow colors of the club are also those of the city. Kolporter is the club sponsor - Kolporter Holdings, owned by Krzysztof Klicki who also owns Korona Kielce. The club was founded in 1973 by the merger of Iskra and SHL. In 1996 a reorganization led to the club's name being changed to Miejski Klub Sportowy Sekcja Futbolowa Korona. Another merger, in 2000 with Błękitni Kielce, resulted in the name change to Kielecki Klub Piłkarski Korona. Krzysztof Klicki took over the club in 2002 and Kolporter was added to the name before the return to the traditional name (+ sponsor) in 2005. Korona Kielce are in their third season in the Ekstraklasa and reached the Polish Cup final for the first time in 2007, losing 2-0 to Groclin Dyskobolia. The nickname Scyzory means knives, while Złocisto-Krwiści means blood and gold, a reference to their colors.
