Founded on January 7, 1970 by Kaizer Motaung, a legendary South African player, who spent several years playing in the American NASL for the Atlanta Chiefs club. He organized a number of friendly matches, taking a number of important players from Orlando Pirates. Their rivalry evolved from this. A current British pop band is named after the club (though the spelling is slightly changed). The most popular team in South Africa.
