Official Website: ipatingafc.com.br On May 21, 1998 Novo Cruzeiro, an amateur club based in the Novo Cruzeiro neighborhood of Ipatinga, turned professional and was renamed Ipatinga Futebol Clube. The nickname Tigrão means Big Tiger and Tigre de Aço means Steel Tiger. The tiger nickname was chosen in a public poll at the time of the club's foundation. Ipatinga's colors of green, white, blue and red mirror those of the city of Ipatinga. The design of Its emblem mirrors that of the old Novo Cruzeiro. They won promotion to the top division of Brazilian football for the 2008 season after earlier successes in the Minas Gerais state championship (winners in 2005) and Copa Brasil (semifinalists in 2006). The stadium is officially named for Epaminondas Mendes Brito, one of the stadium's principal architects. It is commonly known simply as the Ipatingão - the Big Ipatinga.
