Antonio Tomba was one of the founders of the club and owner of the Bodega Tomba, a bodega being a wine cellar. The city of Godoy Cruz is in the province of Mendoza, the heart of Argentina's wine-growing region. The Expreso (The Express) nickname is a reference to the stadium's location along a railway. The stadium is named for a former club president.
