Description: Club Deportivo Peña Getafe (originally named Peña Madridista Getafe - a Real Madrid supporters club) and Club Getafe Promesas merged in 1982 and the new club - Getafe Club de Fútbol - was officially formed the following year and launched in the Spanish regional leagues. An earlier club in the Getafe area - Club Getafe Deportivo - had played in the regional leagues since the 1940s, reaching as high as the 3rd division before going bankrupt in 1982. Getafe is a southern suburb of Madrid.The club's logo mirrors that of the city of Getafe. Geta is simply a shortening of Getafe while Azulones is like "The Big Blue". Leganés are their traditional rivals although as Getafe have climbed the ladder of Spanish football Leganés are less and less of a rival. The Alfonso Pérez stadium is named for the former Spanish national team player, who was born in Getafe. Previous Stadium: Estadio de las Margaritas (1983-98).
