Chivas has a Mexicans-only policy and has never used foreign players. The 'Goats' nickname was used as an insult by a journalist in 1948, picked up by opposing fans and eventually adopted by the club's supporters themselves with pride. The derby with América is always the biggest match on the Mexican calendar. The club was founded by a Belgian shopkeeper and its uniforms were based on that of the Belgian team Club Brugge, though the Belgian club has since changed its uniforms.
