Cagliari Football Club was formed in 1920, then merged with Società Italia in 1924 and adopted the name of Club Sportivo Calcio. That club went bankrupt in 1934 and was refounded as Unione Sportiva Cagliari. Won their only title in 1970, led by the club's all-time greatest player Gigi Riva. The nickname Casteddu is Cagliari in the local Sardinian dialect. The Isolani nickname is a reference to Cagliari's location on the island of Sardinia, where they are the biggest club. Their emblem incorporates their colors of red and blue as well as the flag of Sardinia in the center. This flag incorporates the cross of St George and the heads of four Moorish kings. This was a long-time symbol of the kingdom of Aragon, which Sardinia became a part of in the 14th century. Previous Stadiums: Stadio Amsicora (-1970).
