Official Website: kskbeveren.be Translation: Royal Sport Ring of Beveren. Formed on July 1, 1934. The Waes/Waas aspect of their previous names was reference to the town of Beveren's location in Waasland/Pays de Waes region of Belgium. Koninklijke (Royal) is an honorary title given by the Belgian royal family to every club in Belgium after twenty-five years of existence. Beveren have a tradition of producing some of Belgium's best goalkeepers. They're currently famous for including an improbably large number of players from Cote d'Ivoire on their team. A former manager helped found the youth academy of Ivorian club ASEC Abidjan. In the 1960s, Beveren won the third and second division titles in succession, playing entertaining and exciting football, earning them the nickname 'Little Anderlecht'. Freethiel is a contraction of Frederik Thielemans, the original owner of the land on which the stadium was built.
