Official Website: austria-lustenau.at The club's history dates to the creation of a football section of FA Turnerbund Lustenau. Turn was basically a type of gymnastics practiced in Germany and Germanic-speaking areas in the 19th century (and early 20th), although it had a deeply patriotic and Germanic angle that went well beyond exercises. In 1936 the football section broke apart to create a new Sport Club Austria Lustenau. During the 1965/66 season Austria Lustenau had a "merger" with FC Dornbirn 1913 and played as SVg Lustenau/Dornbirn. It wasn't exactly a merger but a Spielgemeinschaft which is a kind of virtual merger used in Austria and (less commonly) in Germany, usually to keep a team from going bankrupt. Austria Lustenau spent three glorious seasons in the late 90s in the Austrian Bundesliga but have otherwise spent their entire history in the second division or (usually) below. The stadium is named for the Reichshof Lustenau, a quasi-independent state in the western Austrian region of Voralberg that was incorporated into the Habsburg empire in the 18th century.
