The name, colors and emblem were inspired by América of Rio de Janeiro. Founded on July 14, 1915. The club won two consecutive promotions in 2005 and 2006 to go from Série C to Série A in two years, the first time this has ever been done. The stadium is named for the former president of the Rio Grande do Norte state football federation. Natal is located in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. Although the official capacity is 52,000 it is currently limited to 28,000.
