Formed on August 1, 1940 in the café Colón of Albacete. The original name of Albacete Fútbol Asociación was dropped after a Spanish Football Federation directive to adopt Spanish names. Balompié is a literal Spanish translation of 'foot ball'. The stadium was built in 1960 and is named for the local mayor at the time of its construction.
